Plant 4 Bowden won the Sustainable Architecture prize and was Runner Up in Commercial Architecture in the South Australian Architecture Awards . WT provided full cost management services and a Superintendent role for this project. We commend Ashley Halliday Architects and we are very proud to be associated with it.

The project, located on the site of the original Gasworks and Clipsal Industries, has left behind its industrial past to find a new sensibility re-emerging in its wake. The refurbishment includes the partial demolition and alterations for the IGA Supermarket, market space, cafes and bars. Existing building evaporative cooling systems and some ventilation were reused, while new services include direct and indirect evaporative cooling systems, lighting, potable and recycled water supplies, metering and building management systems. Designed to optimise natural lighting, cooling and heating through building orientation, sunshades, natural ventilation and quality materials to ensure a 5 Star Green Star rating, the project is a great example of sustainability in practice.

Taking on projects as big as this can be a lot to deal with, there are many different sections of this to bring all together and make it into what you see before you. Sourcing the right building materials and companies from all different corners of the profession can take time. Making sure that the building’s storefront reflects what they are trying to promote to their customers is important and a necessity for all-round business sustainability.
