The Southern Precinct Project (SPP) is a long-term phased integrated landside, terminal and airside development.

The first phase of Stage 1 included:

  • A new domestic terminal building;
  • 17 new aircraft parking bays and taxi lanes;
  • A new ground transport interchange with passenger vehicle drop-off and pick-up, bus stops as well as car par king and car rental facilities; and
  • Improvements to the airport’s road network.

WT Sustainability provided LEED and Independent Commissioning Authority services (CxA) on this project.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System has been developed by the United States Green Building Council as a tool to measure the overall sustainability outcomes of projects. It is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

LEED provides building designers, contractors and operators the tools needed to measure the sustainable impacts of their designs, construction work and operations.

As CxA we monitor that the commissioning of each service is carried out in accordance with the Owners Project Requirements, the Basis of Design, Design Drawings and Specifications plus international and local standards/regulations. The CxA also monitors that methods, practices and documentation are standardised across the development. The role is more complex than that of an Independent Commissioning Agent (as defined in Green Star), but the objectives are similar.
