Melbourne Airport is expecting to accommodate an additional 31 million annual passengers by 2033. To meet expected demand, the Multi-Level Structure (MLS) and associated civil works project is a key requirement in improving Melbourne Airport’s intermediate road network, service infrastructure and parking facilities within the airport’s Southern Precinct. The project forms part of Stage 1 of Melbourne Airport’s biggest transformation and was undertaken concurrently with Melbourne Airport’s New Terminal 4 project.

Completed in 2015, the project comprises a 7 level carpark including a ground transport hub for public drop off and pick up zones as well as designated taxi and bus interchange zones. The new services infrastructure to the MLS and southern precinct is fed through a new service tunnel underneath one of the airport’s roads which was a fundamental component of the project works. In addition to the MLS building and service tunnel, the project features a new elevated road structure into the MLS, the duplication of Melrose Drive and upgrades and improvements to the airport’s road network within the Southern Precinct area.

WT provided full quantity surveying, cost management and cost engineering services for the project from feasibility through to project closure.
