WTP was appointed in 2009 to assist Aurecon with preparation of budget cost estimates associated with the design of the Komo Airfield Development.

The airfield, which is strategically located 10 km south east of the Hydes Gas Conditioning Plant (HGCP) and the future Juha developments, services the landmark PNG LNG project which will develop gas and liquid hydrocarbon resources located in the southern highlands of Papua New Guinea.

The project incorporated construction of a new airfield including a 3.2 km long runway, airport building and hangers to accommodate both Antonov AN-124 cargo planes and Dash-8 passenger aircraft.

The works also incorporated the upgrade or construction of roads and bridges along two main logistics routes including approximately 21 km of upgraded track between HGCP and the airfield (through Terejaga); two new bridges plus upgrade to approximately 20 km of existing road between the Laijauko intersection (on the Idauwi – HGCP Road) and the new Komo Airfield (through Tagari) to support airfield construction.
