The Dandenong Rail corridor serves Melbourne’s growing outer south eastern suburbs with commuter rail services and carries regional commuter and freight services to Victoria’s Gippsland region.

To improve service reliability along the corridor upgrades were required at Westall including the construction of 2.7 km of third track between Centre Road and Springvale Road and additional overnight storage space for five trains at the Westall stabling depot.

The works also included a new premium manned station at Westall incorporating a third platform, 80 extra car spaces and improvements to passenger facilities, safety and accessibility and pedestrian crossing upgrades between Centre Road and Springvale Road.

The upgrade now allows passenger services to commence and terminate at Westall, freeing up the timetable for more frequent and WTP was engaged by Leighton Contractors in 2009 to assist with their successful project bid including preparation of builders quantities.
