Light Rail Stage 2A – City to Commonwealth Park will deliver Canberrans a convenient and environmentally friendly transport option from Alinga Street to Commonwealth Park. It will provide a greater connection between the city and the lake and enhance the local amenity.

The project is the next important step in taking light rail all the way to Woden. Three new stops at Edinburgh Avenue, City South and Commonwealth Park, will extend the light rail network by 1.7 kilometres, passing over both Territory and Commonwealth land.

Powered entirely by renewable energy and funded jointly by the Australian and ACT Governments, the project will provide:

  • Improved urban amenity and active travel with bike racks on vehicles and at stops
  • Improved access to workplaces, businesses, education centres and community events
  • Accessibility for people of all abilities, wheelchairs and prams
  • Better connection between the city and the lake
  • Reliable and convenient service, with services every 5-15 minutes
  • Higher passenger capacity, equivalent to three buses
  • Decongestion in the city

We are providing cost estimation services for the project.
