Sporting grounds and stadia have always been a unique and integral part of our communities, from their ability to bring together people united in common interests, to providing a space for athletes and sports lovers; whether for leisure or for practice – these venues breathe life into our neighbourhoods.

When working alongside our clients, we are committed to discovering ways that we can bring out the most value, from concept and design, all the way to final build and the fan experience.

Our Experience – Local & International

We have been able to develop a deep and rich understanding of the sector throughout the years, having worked on projects from the early 2000’s such as the 2000 Olympic games.

Having crafted a prolific resume over the last 20 years, we have had first-hand experience working on some of the most impressive local projects, such as:

Helming our team of sports & stadia experts, Tim Bessell, National Director; and Gary Mayor, State Director, share a combined experience of over 40 years working within the sector, taking part in some of the largest local projects listed above.

This comes in addition to our international stadia experience (by way of Alberto Fernandez, Associate), in building some of the largest and most impressive sporting facilities in the world, including:

  • Futur Camp Nou Stadium (soon to be the second largest football stadium in the world, and home to FC Barcelona with a capacity of 105,000)
  • Futur Palau Blaugrana (one of the more recently built, multi-functional, inner-city stadiums in Spain, with a capacity of 10,000)

And with the upcoming 2032 Olympic Games, the entire team at WT are excited to welcome the prospect of all potential projects in the forthcoming months.

Focusing on the Fan Experience

From what was once simply a space for people to gather, the needs of the sector have grown to something so much more – requiring a deeper understanding of not only how to achieve conceptual visions, but also all of the different ways to add value at every touchpoint.

Why?

Because at the end of it all, it all comes down to one thing – the fan experience.

Driving Value – Modern Needs Require Modern Solutions

One of the common themes that appear in projects that we have worked on (whether they be new builds or refurbishments to older facilities) almost always includes the topic of modernisation.

With every passing day, we travel further into the future, and with that comes the ever-changing needs and demands of modern life.

Simply providing seats for people in a venue is not enough; people inherently need and expect more, and as a result, the standards are much higher now.

As more and more venues look to utilise multi-purpose functionality, focusing on the fan experience means understanding key value drivers that ensure a project’s success, and exactly how they can be implemented to budget.

Whether it be something as simple as the availability of food and hospitality, logistics around public transportation and accessibility, the integration of a highly extensive AV system, or even ensuring the presence of sustainable practices in the build – these are crucial factors to a positive fan experience.

Having worked on a wide range of projects, we know first-hand how important these features are, and how to bring a build to life, according to plan.

Our Services & Expertise

As a result of our extensive and wide-spread experience within the sector, particularly with respect to more recent and large-scale projects, we have developed some of the most accurate benchmarking data; ensuring that our clients are aware of all potential outcomes, and that all phases meet expectations.

With the growing demands of the sector, we have also grown accustomed to certain challenges, and have adapted to overcome them.

From both small to medium, and large-scale projects, we have gained invaluable experience in providing full QS services from concept and design, all the way through to completion of build and post-contract facilities management.

We pride ourselves on our ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders; as well as our ability to manage areas that may impact project delivery (e.g. Procurement & Sequencing of materials during build); in doing so, our experienced and capable team know just how to bring a vision to life – on time, and to budget.
