Project Value:

$428.5 million

The Boola Bardip Museum is an exciting and iconic building which will serve the people of WA for generations to come. When it opens its doors to the public in 2020, it will link our past with our present, and like the State of WA, will be continuously looking to our collective future.

This project represents a major capital investment of $428.5 million in WA’s cultural heritage, which will link the revitalized Perth Cultural Centre to the other major projects currently under way by the State Government. Once completed the functional space will be approximately 23,000 m2, providing the appropriate showcase in which to display the Museums significant collection of more than 4.6 million items, and international touring exhibitions.

The site of the Boola Bardip Museum site is of great Aboriginal significance. In more recent times, from the mid nineteenth century on, the site served as the location of Perth’s Goal and WA Museum, the latter having occupied this site for the last 123 years. This project required the careful and sensitive redevelopment of the site and the four surrounding heritage buildings which are a key aspect of this project.

Now complete, the client has received the benefit of WT’s extensive infrastructure development experience to assist in the planning and completion of this project. WT have used our cost planning skills to advise the client on wise expenditure decision throughout the project, assisting to adhere to the budget.

WT was engaged to provide Quantity Surveying Services from inception through to completion and final account. The project is complex in that it includes various bespoke factors relating to the heritage nature and inner city location of the site and fit out of the galleries to international standards inclusive of mixed mode ventilation and air conditioning. WT has been providing advice over the last 5 years with the Museum completed November 2020. The project was completed on programme and on budget.
