Project Description

Tim Bessell

National Director

Tim is highly regarded for his detailed and technical approach resulting in reliable cost advice that exceeds clients’ expectations.

Tim excels working under the time and budget constraints of major projects. His impressive portfolio of iconic developments includes the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, MCG – Northern Stand and Shane Warne Stand, AAMI Park, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre Stage 2, Marvel Stadium Upgrade and La Trobe University’s Biosciences Research Centre.

When asked about his sports & stadia experience, Tim says:

“I love my sport so helping deliver better sporting facilities for our athletes is great.  I attend a lot of sports events so getting a sneak peek into how the fan experience will change I find really exciting.  I also find the sports sector reflects sporting team culture where we work together for a common goal, increasing enjoyment and efficiency of the delivery team.

I was lucky enough to be seconded out on site at AAMI Park full time during the 3 year build.  Getting to see how the Builder turned a set of drawings into a stadium, especially the roof and façade (a series of geodesic domes), was something remarkable.  Some of my earliest memories as a kid was attending the MCG, whether it be games of AFL or cricket.  So having the chance to work with the MCC closely over the last 18 years has been an experience I really cherish and I still get that aura of anticipation when I’m there, even on non-event days.”

Tim brings significant cost planning experience including bill of quantities, tender reviews and recommendations including tenderer selection process, trade based estimates for builders, risk mitigation, value engineering and opportunity analysis, with exposure to other industry sectors such as civil works, aviation, healthcare, zoos, marine, retail and residential.

He has extensive understanding of contract administration undertaking roles for Banks, Developers, Superintendents, Project Managers and Builders.  This exposure includes acting as Independent Certifier.

Tim was awarded the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award 2017.

He joined WT in 2005 and was appointed a Director in 2017.
