Sydney offers world-class experiences for visitors and residents, including music, sports, and major events.

Sydney Football Stadium, centrally located between the city and Sydney Airport, is a significant venue for hosting large-scale entertainment. After nearly 30 years of being in operation, it required a comprehensive renovation to continue serving as a leading venue for future generations.

Leveraging expertise in stadia cost management

In 2017, the NSW Government engaged WT to provide expert cost management and project advisory services on the $828 million development, from the business case phase through to practical completion. Working closely with Infrastructure NSW and builder John Holland, we helped ensure the project was delivered ahead of schedule and on budget – a result of clear collaboration, rigorous planning, and responsive management throughout each stage of the project.

Sydney Football Stadium, now known as Allianz Stadium, opened in 2022 and welcomed a new era in sporting and entertainment infrastructure. The state-of-the-art venue has 42,500 seats and was designed for maximum audience comfort and engagement. From improved sightlines and upgraded public amenities to digital screens and inclusive accessibility features, every detail was considered to elevate the event experience. The steep seating design ensures outstanding views from every seat, while the partially enclosed roof enhances acoustics and weather protection – making it ideal for both sporting and concert events.

Adding to the stadium’s cultural significance is the striking seating pattern designed by award-winning Indigenous artist Tony Albert. Titled Two Worlds Colliding – Water and Land, the design celebrates Country and is visible from all angles, reinforcing the venue’s identity as a modern and inclusive cultural icon.

The Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment shows how innovative design, sustainable planning, and collaboration can transform a city’s sports and entertainment scene for the future.
