The Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium is set to become Tasmania’s premier destination for sport, arts, entertainment and major events.
At the heart of the Macquarie Point precinct in Hobart, the stadium will deliver a 23,000 seat, fully roofed venue and serve as the future home ground of the Tasmanian Devils AFL and AFLW teams. The project represents one of the state’s most significant infrastructure investments, designed to transform an underutilised waterfront site into a vibrant precinct that supports community, as well as cultural and economic outcomes.
Cost certainty and financial governance for major public infrastructure
WT was engaged by the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC) in 2024 to provide cost management and quantity surveying services across all stages of the development. By establishing cost planning from project inception, MPDC were provided with clear, accurate and timely financial insights to support confident decision making. This includes detailed cost estimates, risk adjusted forecasting and ongoing cost control that help MPDC manage budget pressures on this complex, high profile, public project.
Delivering integrated program, asset and BIM advisory to improve delivery
We are also delivering portfolio and program advisory services to strengthen governance and improve transparency across the program. Our program management team was engaged to develop comprehensive schedules to map dependencies, sequencing and delivery pathways. This work supports proactive planning, enables earlier identification of risks and ensures the project team has a shared, realistic view of timeframes and milestones.
To support long-term operations, we have been engaged to prepare a facilities management asset register that clearly defines the assets required to run and maintain the stadium throughout its life. Embedding operational and maintenance considerations early will help the client make design decisions that minimise whole-of-life cost and ensure efficient future operations.
Given the project’s digital complexity, our BIM advisory team audited model quality, structure and compliance with project requirements. The audit reports improved coordination between design disciplines, reduce the likelihood of construction stage errors and support a smoother, more efficient handover to operations.
By integrating cost, program, BIM and facilities management advisory services, we’re helping the Macquarie Point Development Corporation deliver a world‑class stadium that will redefine Tasmania’s events and entertainment landscape. Once complete, the stadium will play a major role in transforming Macquarie Point into a thriving precinct and will stand as a landmark asset for the state’s sporting and cultural future.
