Murdoch Square represents a major milestone in the transformation of Perth’s southern corridor. Opened in early 2024, this integrated mixed-use development is the first stage of the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct (MHKP), a key initiative within the State Government’s Murdoch Activity Centre.
Encompassing five buildings above a shared three-level basement, Murdoch Square delivers a dynamic blend of healthcare, hospitality, commercial and community uses. These include WA’s first medi-hotel, Courtyard by Marriott hotel, an aged care facility, a private hospital, specialist medical suites and commercial offices – all connected by a central, landscaped plaza with food and beverage offerings.
WT was engaged in 2022 by project partners Hesperia, Aegis Health and Multiplex to provide commercial advisory services. Our role as Independent Certifier became particularly pivotal during the construction phase, supporting the client in navigating and assessing the cost and contractual impacts of a major design change.
Independent and commercially grounded advice during critical delivery stages
The scale and complexity of Murdoch Square required careful coordination across multiple asset types and stakeholders. As Independent Certifier, we played a central role in upholding the integrity of the delivery process, reviewing and certifying works in line with contract obligations and ensuring transparent communication between parties.
We provided strategic input on key contractual matters and assessed cost implications during construction. This included helping the project team manage and evaluate a significant design change, ensuring its financial and delivery risks were understood, mitigated and appropriately administered.
We also supported cost-related decision-making for shared infrastructure within the three-level basement, which required coordinated access and funding agreements across the five buildings. Our ability to independently assess and certify complex, multi-party arrangements was instrumental in maintaining momentum across the precinct.

Completed in 2024, Murdoch Square stands as a thriving civic and health hub that reflects the vision of the MHKP. By blending healthcare, hospitality, and commercial spaces around a walkable public plaza, it sets a benchmark for integrated urban development in Western Australia.
