A major investment in high-quality, affordable housing has transformed Hobart’s Queens Walk Housing Precinct. The redevelopment has delivered two new apartment buildings, adding 65 one- and two-bedroom homes for Tasmanians on low to middle incomes.

Led by Housing Choices Tasmania in partnership with Homes Tasmania, the project preserves the character of the 1950s heritage-listed buildings with designs from Cumulus Studio while expanding the precinct to 149 homes. Upgraded outdoor and communal spaces foster community connection and enhance liveability.

Independent cost management and collaboration

Engaged in 2021, WT provided cost management and quantity surveying services across the project lifecycle. Our team supported feasibility and design development cost planning, ensuring a strong foundation for delivery. Collaborating with builder Fairbrother during Early Contractor Involvement, we supplied detailed quantities and market insights to inform tender estimates and mitigate cost escalation risks. Throughout construction, we conducted progress claim assessments, offering independent oversight and quality assurance.

Tackling Tasmania’s housing crisis

Completed in November 2025, two months ahead of schedule, families now have access to more safe, stable and affordable housing in modern, energy-efficient homes close to public transport and recreation facilities. The Queens Walk Housing Precinct was also recognised as the 2025 winner of the Australian Community Housing Modernisation of a Built Form Development Award, a testament to the precinct as a flagship urban renewal project.
