The redevelopment of UTAS Stadium is a major investment in the future of sport, events and community activity in Northern Tasmania.

Jointly funded by the Tasmanian and Australian Governments, the $130 million upgrade will create a more accessible, flexible and modern venue that supports everything from elite football to local programs, public events and year-round community use. The project will expand the stadium to a capacity of approximately 17,500 while maintaining operations throughout construction, allowing fans, grassroots clubs and local organisations continue using the venue during the redevelopment.

Once complete in 2027, the stadium will become the northern home ground for the Tasmania Devils when they enter the AFL and AFLW competitions in 2028, while also strengthening its role as a key community asset and economic driver for the region.

Creating a community-focused stadium with long-term cost certainty

WT is providing cost management and quantity surveying services across the full redevelopment program. Our involvement began during early feasibility and options assessment, where we shaped the scope, staging strategies and cost implications of different redevelopment pathways. Drawing on our experience supporting the UTAS Stadium masterplan, we brought detailed knowledge of the site, its operational needs and the complexities of delivering major upgrades while keeping the venue active year-round.

The redevelopment comprises multiple work packages, staging arrangements and separable portions. We have supported the project through design development, procurement and delivery, refining cost plans and providing commercial advice to support decision-making. This includes balancing budget, program and operational requirements while aligning upgrades with Australian Tier 2 stadium guidelines.

Our role covers the core financial management elements of the program, helping maintain clarity and confidence as the project progresses. Our services include financial reporting, evaluation of progress claims, and transparent assessment of contractor variations arising from scope changes, market conditions and site‑specific challenges.

We have worked closely with local contractors and suppliers, applying a strong understanding of Tasmanian market capacity and capability to inform packaging and procurement strategies. This approach has supported project feasibility, enabled local industry participation and strengthened delivery outcomes.

Through consistent financial oversight and governance support, we’re helping to ensure the redevelopment remains aligned with approved budgets, program milestones and strategic objectives, while preserving access for fans and community users throughout construction.
