Project Value:

$4 Billion

Cross River Rail is a proposed new north-south rail line in Brisbane’s inner city, including a new tunnel under the Brisbane River and four new underground inner city rail stations.  The Queensland Government undertook the Inner City Rail Capacity Study prefeasibility study to identify possible solutions to capacity issues in Brisbane’s inner city rail network. The study found that an additional north-south river crossing for rail would be needed to cope with the increasing demand for transport services in SEQ.

The scope of this project includes tunnelling under the Brisbane river, from Woolloongabba to the CBD and daylighting north of the city beyond Spring Hill. The tunnel is to be dug with Tunnel Boring Machines and will be fully lined. The work also involves track work, new Over Head Wire and rail signalling systems.

Detailed critical path programming was required for procurement, the environmental impact statement, investment and finance and the project definition report.

WT undertook a parallel estimate for Lend Lease in the tender phase and undertook the Lenders Technical Assistance role for the financier Capella in the tender phase.
