WT has officially opened its new Sydney office at 1 Bligh Street, marking an important step in the firm’s continued growth in New South Wales and its ongoing investment in people, culture and client experience.
Located on Level 6 of the landmark Dexus-managed tower, the 1,600‑square‑metre workplace brings together nearly 200 staff within one of Sydney’s most architecturally distinctive commercial buildings. Defined by its 135‑metre internal atrium and six-star Green Star rating, the building offered a unique opportunity to create a highly visible, connected and sustainable workplace.
Designed by long-term partners Group GSA and Aston Consulting, and delivered by MPA, the new office transforms a previously enclosed legal tenancy into an open, contiguous environment. Light, sightlines and visual connectivity across the atrium have been prioritised to support orientation, transparency and everyday connection.
At the heart of the workplace is a central social and events space formed beneath a canopy inspired radial ceiling. Drawing on the symbolism of a tree, the feature acts as a shared gathering space for collaboration, town halls and informal interaction. The design is inspired by WT’s Journey Together, an Indigenous artwork commissioned through WT’s Reconciliation Action Plan, embedding themes of gathering, rhythm and cultural awareness aligned with the firm’s values.
Michael Brown, National Workplace Sector Lead at WT, said the new office was designed to support how the firm works today and into the future.
“This workplace is about more than accommodating growth,” Mr Brown said.
“It supports collaboration, flexibility and connection, while creating an environment where our people and clients feel welcomed and engaged.”
Rather than fully stripping the tenancy back, existing ceiling and spatial elements were selectively retained and reworked, embracing principles of reuse and circularity while delivering a dramatic shift in openness and functionality. Soft boundaries guide movement between front‑of‑house and work areas, with clients welcomed directly into a generous kitchen and social hub that also functions as an event space.
A diverse range of work settings supports neurodiversity and changing work styles, from low‑stimulus retreat spaces to highly collaborative team environments. Natural materials, including bamboo used extensively throughout the fitout, bring warmth and consistency to the workplace.
The result is a contemporary Sydney workplace that reflects WT’s growth, culture and commitment to long‑term value for its people, its clients and the broader built environment.
“This office is a platform for the next phase of our Sydney business,” Mr Brown said. “It brings our people together, creates space for collaboration with clients, and reinforces the culture that underpins everything we do.”
