Congratulations to Atlassian and Dexus for receiving full approval for their headquarters at Central

Since 2016, Atlassian has been working closely with the NSW Government and Dexus to bring to life an exciting new technology precinct in Sydney (Tech Central).

Atlassian in partnership with Dexus has now gained full approval to develop the current YHA site at Central (8-10 Lee Street).

This comes on the back of a thorough planning process with the NSW Government and various agencies, an international design competition to determine the amazing design for the Atlassian building, and various commercial and technical agreements to enable development on the YHA site.

The Atlassian Australia headquarter building will be a world-leading sustainable tower that becomes Atlassian’s long-term home in Sydney. It’s an incredible hybrid timber design, which will be the tallest of its kind in the world.

The building will be highly sustainable, highly flexible, and built for the future. It will be 39 storeys that are distributed across 8 different habitats, with uses of the building including office, retail and tourism (YHA).

As a distributed workforce, Atlassian needs to ensure that its home in Sydney continues to be adaptable and modern – matching the innovative way the organisation will be working in the future.

Atlassian has now formally appointed Dexus who will fund, develop and invest in the delivery of the Atlassian building to completion (approx. 2026/27). Atlassian has committed to lease the entire building upon completion and will retain a minority ownership stake in the building upon completion as well.

Atlassian’s and Dexus’s efforts are all part of a broader vision to help build a centre for technology in Australia (Tech Central) where startups, incubators, and large technology companies can work together to develop their amazing ideas.

We’ve been working on the project from inception providing Full Cost Management Services through the design and procurement phases working closely with Atlassian, Dexus the global design team and a thoroughly collaborative ECI period with Built and Obayashi. We look forward to seeing this incredible building completed in 2026/27.
