Burnside Village Shopping Centre has long held a reputation as South Australia’s premiere destination for high-end retail, lifestyle, and dining. Situated just 5 kilometres from Adelaide’s CBD in the city’s affluent eastern suburbs, the centre first opened its doors in 1972 and has evolved through several redevelopment phases to meet the expectations of its discerning clientele.
Following extensive consultation with shoppers, retailers, community leaders, and the City of Burnside, owners Cohen Group launched a bold 10-year masterplan to elevate the centre’s experience. The redevelopment (split into Stage 6 and Stage 7) is reimagining Burnside Village as a modern, vibrant, and highly connected mixed-use precinct.
Delivering value on stage 6 of a decade-long vision
WT was engaged by Cohen Group to provide cost management and quantity surveying services on Stage 6 of the redevelopment. Our team supported the project with detailed cost planning, tender reviews, and construction cost management to ensure commercial certainty and efficient delivery.
Stage 6 works included a striking new geodesic roof made of structural steel and glass that spans the central mall, enhancing natural light and elevating the centre’s architectural identity. Other major upgrades delivered under Stage 6 included a 562 space underground car park to improve access and traffic flow, fashion retailing, lifestyle and athletic retail, a new Village Dining precinct to activate day-to-night trade, upper-level office floors to support commercial tenants, wellness centre and expansion to accommodate up to 80 new retailers, with a focus on international and national luxury brands, some for the first time seen in Adelaide.
