The $200 million redevelopment of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery will create more than twice the present display space, including a dedicated facility for travelling exhibitions that will enable the Museum to host international exhibitions of a standard never before seen in Tasmania.

The overall Masterplan incorporates redevelopment of a car park to create a public piazza whilst the historic Watergate will be highlighted as the centrepiece of the entrance, surrounded by heritage buildings on one side, and a new building housing a cafe and flexible program-delivery facility on the other.

The redeveloped Museum will be more accessible to museum visitors allowing for expanded public programs, education programs, travelling exhibitions and new spaces to house the Museum’s extensive collection.

WT is providing peer review of cost planning for the Masterplan including options assessment prior to lodgement of the Masterplan to receive approval and funding.
