Strategic urban planning is shaping the future of Sydney to support the sustainable growth of communities and industries. The development of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is catalysing investment in the surrounding Western Sydney Aerotropolis, including the creation of Bradfield City adjacent to the airport. As Australia’s first new city in 100 years, the 114-hectare site is being designed to drive industry innovation and serve as a central hub for arts, culture, and entertainment.

WT is working with the Bradfield Development Authority to bring this vision to life, with Central Park a foundational element of the new city’s identity and a critical piece of social infrastructure. Central Park will provide green, open space for workers, residents and visitors to gather, play and relax.

Designed by ASPECT Studios, the park showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Dharug people, supported by innovative technology to best care for the park and its users, adapting to changing climate and a new growing city.

Appointed in February 2023, we provided expert cost management and quantity surveying services for the landmark project. Collaborating closely with Bradfield Development Authority, the multi-disciplinary design team, and suppliers, we’ve supported the project from its early stages, guiding it through the master planning phase, overseeing design competitions and design development through to pre-tender estimates.

Our role has focused on delivering robust cost certainty while enabling design excellence, underpinned by creative value management strategies tailored to this highly ambitious public space. Due to the bespoke nature of the proposed designs, we utilised our digital expertise and in-house BIM team to conduct quantity take-offs from the project’s models and complete measurements with greater accuracy. These expert reviews enabled buildability and cost issues to be resolved during the design development phase.

With a staged delivery alongside the Bradfield Metro Station, we continue to provide proactive cost management and strategic insights to ensure the project realises its long-term vision for a dynamic, future-focused urban park.
