Marvel Stadium (previously known as Etihad Stadium) is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment stadium in the Docklands precinct of Melbourne. Originally built as a replacement for Waverley Park, the Stadium is primarily used for Australian rules football and is the headquarters of the Australian Football League (AFL).
In 2018, the Victorian State Government allocated $225 million to the major upgrade and refurbishment of the Stadium and surrounding concourse. The Marvel Stadium and surrounding precinct works includes revitalised eastern and southern entry points, including a new ‘Town Square’ transforming the space into a seven-day per week open and accessible area to gather Monday to Sunday, or when attending a sporting event or concert. A new city-side extension includes function rooms with views of both the arena and CBD as its backdrop.
The fan experience is enhanced with major renovations to public food and beverage areas connecting into the arena and the area overlooking the field of play, as well as including more spaces to catch up with friends, pre, during and post the match. Two newer and larger scoreboards hang from the roof at both ends of the venue, whilst also housing a new sensory room and changing place facility; ensuring Marvel Stadium is a place that welcomes people of all abilities.
The venue also houses additional bicycle parking facilities to promote sustainable transport. Athletes have also been supported with upgrades to the team facilities, providing state of the art male and female change rooms.
We were engaged by the AFL to provide full quantity surveying services for the project.
In early 2010 the venue suffered major storm damage to the external roof and flood damage to the Stadium’s entertainment precinct. As the original cost managers, we had intimate knowledge of the venue and were engaged by FM Global to assist with the costing and managing of repairs. We went on to provide all cost management services to the Stadium management on upgrades and new works, as well as loss adjustor works relating to insurance claims.
